Agents causing genital infections in routine cytological tests: frequency and characteristics of Papanicolaou smears

Abstract Urinary tract infections are responsible for most human infections, these caused by bacteria, fungi, protozoa and associated microorganisms. The goal of this study was to determine the rate vaginal infection-causing agents in routine cytological exams also evaluate characteristics positive tested Pap smears. A retrospective documental with descriptive aspect research performed a Clinical Pathology laboratory from Maceió-AL. results smears Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella Candida spp HPV were arranged database as well other data such bacterial, protozoan, fungal viral coinfections. sample composed 18.645 women who have undergone smear 2013 2017. Of analyzed exams, 27.4% 2013, 10.9% 2014, 10.6% 2015, 15.2% 2016 13.67% 2017 within normal range, however more than half presented some unspecific or microbiological agents. By analyzing all reports, 4.073 (21.84%) inflammations species infectious agent following order: G. vaginalis T. vaginalis. Furthermore, it possible confirm high rates coinfection spp. genital highlights that there is public health matter must be controlled, which points greater need monitoring, guidance actions towards awareness order prevent problems.
